UW LaCrosse-Archaeology-high school students

Public Archaeology Field Schools (3 and 5 day experiences)

High School & Adult
This multi-day field and lab experience is a well-rounded opportunity for those who want to learn about the process of archaeology. Work alongside professional archaeologists on an actual archaeological excavation and survey work. Lab work may include washing and sorting ceramics, stone tools, and other remains. An experimental archaeology component may explore making stone tools and using an atlatl (spearthrower). Optional lab hours and local field trips will be available after regular field school hours. No previous experience is necessary.

This experience is open to high-school students through adults. Fee includes a one-year MVAC membership. Supervised dorm facilities are available for high-school students at an additional cost of $225 for 3 days and $335 for 5 days. Cancellation prior to June19 will receive a full refund minus a $100 cancellation fee. No refunds for cancellations after June 19.

Three-day Experience:
Dates: Monday-Wednesday, July 20-22, 2015
Time: July 20: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; July 21-22: 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Location: Archaeology Center and Laboratories, UW-La Crosse
Fee: $350

Five-day Experience:
Dates: Monday-Friday, July 20-24, 2015
Time: July 20: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; July 21-24: 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

UW Baraboo Summer-Art and Music Classes

Attached are  the summer art academy class options this year for art and music, I wanted to pass them along to you.  We will be offering  elementary art academy for the students grade 1-5 from 9-12 noon the week of July 27-31 and then middle school art academy runs from 1-4 pm  in the week of August 3-7 at UW-Baraboo/Sauk County 

Our Middle School Art academy offerings  include lots of the visual arts classes, but added some music opportunities for students currently in grades 5-8.  I am really excited about the Middle School  swing choir class we call Boo U Glee  and the May Songwriting and Pop Piano classes.

NEW! SONGWRITING WORKSHOP FOR YOUTH

Instructor: Shawndell Marks Singer/Songwriter/Pianist, Keyboard Instructor & Band Coach for Girls Rock Camp, Madison

This will be a dynamic workshop for youth grades 5-8 interested in the art of song craft. The class will cover:

  • The importance of creativity
  • Song structure
  • Writing prompts
  • Basic rhyme schemes
  • How to make lyric writing more accessible
  • One-on-one songwriting guidance

No prior songwriting experience necessary. All levels welcome.

NEW! POP PIANO INSTRUCTION FOR YOUTH

Instructor: Shawndell Marks Singer/Songwriter/Pianist, Keyboard Instructor & Band Coach for Girls Rock Camp, Madison

This is a fun, light-hearted introduction to basic piano chords and pop piano technique for students grades 5-8. This class will cover:

  • Basic Music Theory and how it relates to pop music
  • How to create a chord progression suitable for lyrics
  • The art of improvising
  • How to create a musical “hook”
  • Various rhythmic patterns

All piano experience levels welcome.

UW Green Bay Summer Camps

Greetings!

Here is the info for the arts and science camp offerings at UW-Green Bay. (We have options for Resident Overnight Campers!!!)

Our program is designed for middle and high school students. Offerings include art studio course selections, music (band, orchestra, choir, piano, guitar), health science, robotics and STEM, Video Game Programming etc. Our website iswww.uwgbsummercamps.com  Some of our smaller capacity camps in the sciences are already half full, so parents should register early with $100 deposit to hold their place. Payments are due two weeks prior to the start of the camp.  Please let me know if you have any questions. We hope to see a good representation of gifted and talented students at our camps!
