Dear Middle School Parent:
Cyber Safety for You and Your Family will be presented on Monday, Novermber 17th at Sauk Prairie Middle School from 6-7 p.m. Resource Officer Katy Carter along with the Middle School Counselors, Jane Busler and Steve Bennett will be presenting on the topic of cyber safety. Most phones these days are portable computers which can not only be used to make a phone call, send text messages, take pictures but surf the internet. Do you know all the safe and unsafe ways phones are being used?
More and more websites are being used for chatting purposes, with people you do not even know. This is a pedophile’s dream come true. We will speak with you about ways to be safe, things to look out for and how to report concerning behaviors, actions, posts and pictures. We truly care for your child’s safety, inside and outside of school.
Some of the common websites that are being used besides Facebook and Twitter are snapchat.com, omegle.com, chatroulette.com, and socialnetwork.com. and kik.com. They advertise themselves as chatting with strangers – people that you don’t know. There are many others, but these are some of the more popular ones right now. This is something that is constantly changing and something new might be here next week. Please be aware of what your son/daughter is doing online and if they are visiting these sites.
Because of the constant change in technology, we are hoping to raise your awareness to help protect your son or daughter and help them to make safe choices with their use of technology. We know you want to trust your son or daughter, but there are lots of temptations out there. There is also a lot of misinformation out there as well. We want to provide you with helpful, correct information!
By being involved with school, community or church functions, your son or daughter might be deterred from these activities. We will share resources to help you learn how to keep your family cyber safe. Please plan to attend and invite a neighbor, friend or relative to join you!.
