Northwestern University Midwest Academic Talent Search

(NUMATS)

Students in grade seven, who have been selected as eligible to participate in the 2014 – 2015 Northwestern University Midwest Academic Talent Search conducted by the Center for Talent Development at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, will be receiving information this fall about taking the ACT or SAT Test. To qualify for this opportunity, students must have scored at or above the 95th percentile in the reading section of an achievement test.  Since current test scores are not always available, NUMATS has provided a second way for students to participate.  Parents may request that a student be allowed to take the ACT or SAT without the prerequisite test scores.

Students in grade eight, who have previously received information, but have opted not to  take the ACT or SAT, are also eligible to participate.

The Sauk Prairie School District participates in the Midwest Academic Talent Search to help provide us with additional information about high ability students in the district.  Often these students “top out” of standardized achievement tests.  This information will give a clearer picture of their ability and make it possible to plan programs in the district to meet their needs.  The information will not go on their high school transcripts and will not be seen by colleges they may apply to in the future.
